Souq al Khamis Mosque – formidlingscenter og landskabsplan, 2015 - Khamis, Bahrain

Wohlert Arkitekter AS har udarbejdet et forslag til formidlingscenter og landskabsplan, der både synliggør ruinen af moskeen i den moderne byudvikling og etablerer faciliteter for turister. Moskeen er en af de ældste i den Arabiske Golf. Projektet er i udbud og forventes ibrugtaget 1 2015.

Forslaget hovedidé er at skabe en ”horisontal ramme” om moske-området, som ligger tilbage som den sidste bid af det oprindelige landskab. Rammen skal fremstå svævende, og udføres i meget store naturstensfliser. Der vil være frit indsyn fra den tilstødende hovedvej, så moskeen og landskabet atter træder ind i landskabet. I vest-enden af opføres en mindre bygning der huser  en informativ udstilling og faciliteter for besøgende. Langs anlægget nordlige skel opføres en skyggegivende pavillon med en vandkunst, hvorfra moskeen kan betragtes. De eksisterende træer vil danne en rolig og ensartet baggrund for ensemblet.

Souq al-Khamis Mosque - Visitors’ Centre and Landscape plan, 2015 - Khamis, Bahrain

Wohlert Arkitekter AS has prepared a proposal for a visitors’ centre and landscape plan. The project exposes the mosque in the present day urban development and creates facilities for visitors. The mosque is one of the oldest in the Gulf. The project is presently being tendered and is expected to be inaugurated in 2015.

The proposal comprises a "horizontal framing of the remaining original desert surface; a slightly elevated “floating” pathway in very large slabs of light, natural stone. There will be no horizontal barriers towards the highway, making the mosque and original landscape re-enter the street scenery. At the western end, a small building with an informative exhibition and services will be constructed. Along the northern side, an open, shaded pavilion with a fountain will provide a place for contemplating the mosque. The existing trees will create a quiet, uniform backdrop for the mosque.
